Laser Resurfacing
The CO2 laser has gained popularity as an effective treatment for wrinkles. Dr. Hawes usually does resurfacing of the area around the eyelids in conjunction with upper and lower blepharoplasty. The laser vaporizes the most superficial layer of the skin, leaving the deeper skin intact. A new top layer of skin then grows back and the new layer has fewer wrinkles. Although this sounds like a simple process, it isn't. It takes about 10-12 days for the skin to regenerate, and the treated area must be covered with a bandage or Vaseline during this time period. The skin may be red for weeks to months afterwards, and it is important to use sunscreen and all the other medications prescribed by Dr. Hawes.

Preoperative

Postoperative 5 months after laser resurfacing, blepharoplasty, and ptosis repair.

The laser works best for static (nonmoving) lines, while Botox is the best treatment for dynamic (present with a smile or frown) lines.
